Why open RSS still matters for your podcast

Every podcast runs on RSS. It is the open standard that Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocket Casts, and hundreds of other apps use to find new episodes. When you "submit your show" to a directory, you are giving them your feed URL. They check it regularly for updates.

That feed URL is the most valuable asset your show has — more valuable than any single platform profile.

What "open RSS" actually means

An open RSS feed is one you control:

• The feed URL lives on your host or your domain
• Any app can subscribe without permission from a platform
• If you switch hosts, you can move the feed (or redirect) without rebuilding your audience from zero

Some platforms offer "free hosting" that hides the feed, locks you in, or makes leaving painful. That is not hosting — it is renting an audience they can take away.
